Bicycles are fun and healthy too but they will tire you out and probably not as portable that we can easily carry with one hand and hand carry when using the stairs or taking public transportation. If you are looking for an alternative to a bicycle but is more suitable for short distance usage, an electric scooter is a great option to consider. They not only look fancy but also convenient and won’t tire you out as well in case you need to maintain appearance. Read also: Razor A5 Lux vs A6.
If you are also interested in buying a scooter, there are actually several factors to consider first before you make a decision since not all of them are the same. Choosing the ideal vehicle will not only save you the budget but also on safety as scooters can go quite fast.
Before deciding the option, make sure to check the weight of the scooter since this will decide how we will be using them later. It is mostly about portability however as chances are you will need to fold them and carry them while using the stairs, elevator, lift, or when using the public transportation. While a heavy scooter feels safer and more robust, they will be more difficult and tiring to carry around or even hinder you from moving freely in crowded streets.
When it comes to scooter what’s important in both manual kick scooter for children and electric scooter for children is their wheel size. It is best to consider what type of terrain the scooter will be rolling on or where you will be using them. In general small tires are ideal for the smoother terrain and they are lighter to both when rolling and when navigated. On the other hand larger wheels will be more comfortable on rougher or bumpy roads and on harsh terrain like gravel.
Related to the wheel as well, electric scooters are varying widely nowadays and they can be paired with different types of tires. Usually you can find them with solid rubber or pneumatic tires which need to be filled with air that is also available with tubes or tubeless; the same like motorbike/car tires. Solid rubber benefits from puncture resistance while pneumatic tires are better used when riding on a surface with lots of small hurdles as it is more comfortable.
Next which is not less important is the motor power of your scooter because they are the one useful for maintaining speed and force to roll on the terrain. For those who are traveling in steep terrain, you will need a higher motor or probably around 400 watt minimum. Motor power is generally deciding whether the scooter will be able to maintain the speed as it climbs a higher terrain. In addition it is related to the wheel too since a powerful motor will come with a larger wheel.

About Ninebot ES2 and E22
Now when you already know which scooter or what to expect from the unit, it is time to see what the market has to offer since you will find lots of them out there both from unfamiliar names to those that we all already often heard of. Chances are it is best to stick with popular options because they tend to be more reliable yet you will still need to curate the choice and find the best option. If you are shopping on a budget, narrowing down the option based on the budget will be convenient as well.
To save time, going with well-known names is just convenient and when it comes to electric scooters, one of the most popular options is Segway. We are sure most people are familiar with this brand because they are one of the first choices for electric vehicles and probably also the most famous for their products that used to be quite a trend back then. While the hype of electric vehicles is already subsided, they still have lots of new products that get updated too.
For those who are going to travel a short distance and go on some adventure as well with their scooter, Ninebot ES2 and E22 are two ideal options to consider. Price wise they are probably around the entry-level and you can always find the higher options but around $500 the two are going to help you arrive faster to a destination and in our opinion they will also be suitable for people who are living nearby their workplace or students who need something to help them move around within the campus.
While from the model name they sound similar to each other, Ninebot ES2 and E22 are coming from different families with the former is comparably slightly higher in the range. The two however, still offer the same level of performance and pretty good to ride as well despite not perfect. Our main complaint about both is how slow they stop when you press the brake making them not as safe when you are riding at a higher speed.
About Ninebot ES2 and E22
As you can see from the sample picture above, this scooter is looking really cool and the dark grey finish does make the unit look simple yet elegant to some level. What we often see in children’s kick scooters but not on adult electric scooters is the T panel which is not adjustable but foldable. Of course the comfort will highly depend on your height but the two seem to be fine enough for most adults with average height around 6 feet or slightly taller.
If you are shorter like us then it is not a problem but extremely tall people may slouch. There is a small display in the middle of the handle to show you the mode of these scooters and the battery level which is very convenient. The material of Ninebot ES2 and E22 seem to be pretty heavy as well or probably made from aluminum alloy that weigh around 27.5 and 28.6 pounds respectively.
Ninebot ES2 and E22 Speed
Now for the most important part, let’s see what the scooters can offer and starting with the speed, both of them are pretty decent with 12.4 and 15.5 miles per hour which should be enough for moderate use and to transport from your flat to a nearby destination. The speed dial is located on the handle and there are three different types of speed from Eco, Standard, Sport compared to Standard, Sport, and Red Sport. Overall they are working well on smooth roads and regular pavement.
Performance wise it seems the ES2 is just slightly faster than E22 on the higher setting but on flat roads. As you climb a steep hill, their speed will be noticeably slower and it is normal as well but in comparison it seems the ES2 is still capable enough to carry your weight in a decent speed or just slightly faster than E22. The top speed of the two are also noticeably different so if you prefer to ride faster then we do think the ES model will be more ideal.
Ninebot ES2 and E22 Brake
Now let’s talk about the brake and as you can guess, none of the two are coming with disc brakes so there is only one for front brake that can be accessed on the handlebar and the other one is manual brake above the rear wheel. Performance wise the front brake is not recommended especially at higher speed or when you ride down a hill, it is not safe and jerky. But, the rear brake works well and slows down quite faster too in comparison.
Ninebot ES2 and E22 Comfort
The last let’s talk about the comfort of Ninebot ES2 and E22 since both of them are coming with a pair of solid tires which means, application wise they are best for a smooth and flat surface. The E22 lacks suspension and the ride with this model is not the best as well since you can feel the bumpy pavement really prominently that it can get quite annoying at times. The ES2 is not the most comfortable scooter as well but it is better than E22.
While similarly coming with a solid tire, this variant is also featured with two suspension at the front and rear to absorb some of the shock from bumpy roads. It is riding pretty well and can be used on typical terrain too without any issue.
Ninebot ES2 vs E22
Both Ninebot ES2 and E22 are affordable and easy to ride electric scooters that you can rely on for short distance trips. They are usually comfortable and come with useful features but, also different from each other. The speed may not be as prominent but ES2 is faster at the top speed setting and the most important is it also has a better ride comfort thanks to the suspension. Also do note the battery life is more often not as advertised and subject to vary based on the speed, terrain, as well as rider weight.
Both of them are good options on the budget range but in comparison we will recommend the Segway Ninebot ES2 since this model has a better ride experience, more comfortable, as well as can ride at a higher speed.
