An electric scooter is now one of the lightweight transports. Rather than walking on foot or riding a bicycle, an electric scooter can also help you get to the station or for students going to school. There are a variety of electric scooters that can be chosen. Segway ES1 and Xiaomi M365 are two of the options that can suit the need for an everyday scooter. Let’s see more about them to help you consider which one to buy.
Lightweight and agile, the Segway ES1 rides very well. It is perfect for beginners with a little bit of practice you will be flying around in no time. The ES1 can only be driven in dry surfaces, it slides all over the place and gets deadly in the wet. There is only a 7cm clearance under the scooter, so it is best to avoid jumping off curbs and this scooter is definitely not meant for acrobatics, off-road diving or jumps. Thanks to the smart latch mechanism, it can be easily folded, carried around and be stored in the car.
Two different breaks are available on this scooter. The old-fashion rear manual brake which is sturdy enough and can lock the wheel if pressed hard enough. This kind of brakes lacks of power and control that hydraulic and electric brakes can offer. The second one is the front brake which is an electric anti-locking brake that can be activated with the left thumb from the T bar.
The scooter features front wheel shock absorption to make up its 7.5 and 8 inch solid rubber tires. The front spring suspension makes the ride more comfortable, especially for driving long distances. There is one front LED lights and reflectors on the sides and the rear of the scooter. There are no brake lights but the LED headlight and reflectors will make it easy for cars to spot you during the night.
The ES1 comes with a 250W brushless motor that is a standard for urban scooter. It can reach a max speed of 20km/h on flat surface. ES1 is slower compared to the other scooters in the same category. Before it can accelerate on its own, it needs to kick off to about 3km/h.
If added a second battery it can increase the top speed to 25km/h. There is also the sport mode to make the acceleration a bit quicker but it makes faster battery consumption. The maximum range of this scooter is 25km, if the road conditions are perfect.
The scooter body is made of aircraft-grade aluminum. Some parts such as the fork are covered in plastic but there is metal underneath them. There is an anti-slip rubber around the aluminum alloy base. The durability is pretty strong for this scooter.
Assembling the scooter for the first time is easy too; there are only four screws that need to be put with a screwdriver that comes in the box. After that, activate the scooter through the official app.
The mobile app allows you to access or customize most aspects of the drive. The first one is managing speed limit and cruise control settings. Second, change the speed display from Kilometers per hour to Miles per hour. Next, the app will show whether there is a malfunction on the ES1. See also: Segway ES1 vs Segway ES2.
Statistics and ranking system is also offered, since the manufacturer host a global leaderboard and encouraging people to compete with each other and rank higher. Last, the app can download the latest firmware, an anti-theft function and learning center which provides some basic tutorials.
The M365 is very fun and easy to ride, same as the ES1 it is perfect starter both for children and adults. This model features two modes or speeds. The first one is the best setting for practice; it allows driving up to 15km/h which is 3 times faster than walking speed. The second setting removes all restrictions and makes the motors go full speed; this can reduce the range by half.
In contrast to the ES1, the M365 can handle wet surface but it is still not recommended to take the scooter on a rainy day. Depending on your weight and preferences, you might want to change the tightness of the suspension by slightly inflating or deflating the wheels. Deflated tires offer softer suspension; it comes at the expense of the max speed your scooter can reach. The M365 has a headlight and rear LEDs that flash when the brakes are hit.
The M365 has a 250W/500W motor; the max speed it can reach is 25km/h. When the battery is low, the scooter will start losing speed. The max distance you can travel on this scooter is 30 KM, when it is used at the constant speed of 15 km/h on a flat surface. The charge time for this scooter is only 5 hours.
Regenerative brakes improve the lifespan of the battery. A regenerative brake is basically a system that engages the motor in reverse once you press the brake lever. By going in reverse, the motor slows the wheel down and recharges the battery in the process. This prevents the wheel from locking.
The frame of this scooter is made of aluminum alloy. The pedal board is covered in a layer of plastic. It is foldable and lightweight just like the M365 it is easy to be carried around. There is only one all-purpose button and four small LEDs on the scooter. Not much different from the ES1 this scooter is managed through the mobile app.
Cruise control, Check the battery level, current speed and total driven distance can be done through the app. There is also a smart battery management system. The battery comes with protection against overcharging as well as over discharging. Depleting battery several times can decrease its lifespan, which is why this scooter comes with a protection mechanism that prevents it from happening.
Segway ES1 vs M365
There are many differences between these two scooters. The M365 is the slowest one with only a max speed of 20 km/h (without the second battery). It also has smaller wheels but it is hard rubber wheels, whereas the M365 has inflatable wheels. The Segway scooter has and LCD screen while the Xiaomi does not. Both of the scooters has the same motor power, even though the ES1 can be a lot faster if added a second battery. Overall, there is no definitive winner here it is all up to you which features you prefer more.
